The Government of Nova Scotia has unveiled its five-year highway improvement plan, allocating over $500 million for 2025-26 to fund major highway projects, repaving, bridge replacements, and infrastructure maintenance.
The plan highlights two new significant projects: the Port Hastings intersection in Inverness County and the addition of passing lanes between exits 18 and 19 (Lake Echo/Minvielle and Porters Lake) along Highway 107 in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM).
Additionally, ongoing work will continue on projects such as:
– Seal Island Bridge rehabilitation in Victoria County
– Highway 103 Argyle interchange in Yarmouth County
– Highway 103 twinning from Hubbard to East River in Lunenburg County
– Highway 104 twinning from Taylors Road to Paqtnkek in Antagonism County
– Highway 107 twinning from Burnside to Lake Loon in HRM
– Highway 102 Aerotech Connector in HRM
The plan also includes ongoing infrastructure upgrades for the Tanoak Ferry in Lunenburg County.
Moreover, the initiative outlines improvements for access on 100-series highways not scheduled for twinning, focusing on upgrading intersections and adding passing lanes, turning lanes, and roundabouts.
Overall, this five-year strategy provides a comprehensive roadmap for the province to repair, maintain, and enhance its 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways, along with 4,100 bridges.
