The Nazem Kadir Surgical Centre at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) is set to undergo significant expansion, with funding from the provincial government to enhance its surgical capabilities and patient care services. This expansion will include the addition of four new operating rooms, bringing the total number of operating rooms to six, significantly increasing the center’s capacity to handle more surgeries. In addition to the new operating rooms, the renovation will create additional support spaces dedicated to patient preparation and recovery, improving the overall experience for patients before and after their surgeries.
The government is actively collaborating with LHSC to complete the initial planning and design phase of the expansion project. Once the planning and design work is finished, the project will move into the tendering phase, where construction contractors will be selected. At that point, a construction schedule will be determined to ensure the project progresses efficiently.
The Nazem Kadir Surgical Centre, which is located off-campus across from Victoria Hospital on Base Line Road East, provides an alternative, dedicated space for non-urgent surgeries. By offering outpatient surgical procedures away from the main hospital, the center helps to alleviate pressures on hospital-based operating rooms and improves access to surgical care. To date, the center has completed more than 8,400 successful surgeries, demonstrating its essential role in meeting the growing demand for surgical services in the region.
With this expansion, the Nazem Kadir Surgical Centre is poised to further enhance its ability to provide high-quality, timely care to patients in need of non-urgent surgeries, continuing to serve as a valuable resource within the London community.
