Major sections of the Hazel McCallion Line are finished.

A recent report from Metroplex on the Hazel McCallion Line highlights significant progress, particularly in the completion of major portions of the new elevated guideway, with work now transitioning to the bridge deck phase.

The elevated segment of the Hazel McCallion Line, which spans over Highway 403, plays a crucial role in connecting two key stations on the future Light Rail Transit (LRT) route: the City Centre stop at Rathbun Road and the Robert Speak stop at Hurontario Street.

Last fall, construction crews successfully installed the final girders for the elevated guideway, which form the structural backbone of the project. These girders are vital as they will bear the weight of the trains that will eventually travel above the highway, ensuring the LRT’s safe passage.

As the foundation of the structure is now secure, the focus has shifted to the next phase: the construction of the bridge deck. This is the flat surface where the LRT tracks will be laid once completed. A specialized concrete screed machine is being used to pour the concrete precisely, ensuring the correct thickness, slope, and curvature needed for the deck. The machine’s precision and efficiency are key in ensuring the surface is smooth and reliable for the upcoming rail installation.

The Hazel McCallion Line is part of an ambitious transit development project in Peel Region, which will span 18 kilometers along Hurontario Street. The line will stretch from the Port Credit GO Station to Steeles Avenue in Brampton, with 19 stations planned along the route, enhancing accessibility and connectivity for the region’s residents and visitors.
