Progress update: Installation of girders for the Gardiner project.

Construction on the Gardiner Expressway is making significant strides, particularly in the two central lanes between Dufferin Street and Strachan Avenue. Crews are working around the clock to install the heavy girders that are essential for supporting the elevated sections of the roadway. This complex phase of the project involves the careful placement of these girders, a critical step in strengthening and expanding the infrastructure of one of Toronto’s busiest highways. In parallel, additional work is ongoing with the placement of concrete for the bent caps. These bent caps sit atop the concrete support columns, playing a crucial role in stabilizing the elevated sections of the expressway.

The rehabilitation project has already achieved an important milestone. In November, the Ontario government celebrated the commencement of the second phase of construction, which began four months ahead of the original schedule. This early start is a testament to the efficiency and coordination of the construction efforts. The accelerated timeline not only reflects the commitment to improving the Gardiner Expressway but also aims to minimize disruptions to commuters and local traffic as much as possible. This progress marks a crucial step in the ongoing revitalization of the Gardiner Expressway, which is vital for Toronto’s transportation network.
